WHAT? RADIO'S DEAD! That's right. Stop turning to traditional radio for your new music experiences and fight the power. There are just so many other opportunites to hear great acoustic music that will never be played on the FM dial. 1. Get out to a house concert or live music venue! Join the Peninsula Acoustic Music Scene Head down to Monterey Live. Find a house concert series in your town. 2. Find an Internet Stream! These you could play through your browser or your favorite music program, like iTunes, Windows Media, or Real. Pandora - Would you like to tell the DJ what to play next? After every song? Love this! RadioParadise is little more on the edgy side, with a bit more rock than Juliet likes, but it's what Greg's listened to at work for years. FolkAlley - We stumbled upon this but thanks Dan Gerson and Bonnie Burnell for the reminder. You'll have to register to listen, but it's free. Otterstream at CSU Monterey Bay - The local Internet radio station is where Greg got to guest DJ every once in a while. Check out some previous playlists. 3. Listen to a podcast! She asks the artists, and then can put up a great show of Americana treasures. KUT's Live Music Podcast (full listing of shows) Recorded in-studio in Austin, Texas, this is just a fabulous showcase of music from the Live Music Captial of the World. Indiefeed (full listing of shows) The IndieFeed Folk channel has had quite a few good finds, especially Lori McKenna, The Evernaughts, and Emory Joseph. KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic (full listing of shows) A little more upbeat and rock at times and certainly very diverse, but every once in a while there's a an act I like. Host Nic Harcourt certainly has his finger on the pulse. NPR: World Cafe Word & Music from WXPN (Philadelphia) (full listing of shows) Host David Dye's weekly show is a staple on lots of NPR stations, but in case you aren't so lucky this is a selection of and interview and clips of live in-studio performances. Front Porch House Concerts (Boulder CO) (full listing of shows) What a cool venue, and they seem to have great concerts. Listen in! The Nashville Nobody Knows (full listing of shows) The Nashville Nobody Knows is quaint but with interesting interviews and full-length songs. She even interviewed the lead singer of The Duhks 4. Support public radio! There are still some great radio stations that will play music that is under the radar, but they need your support.
